Learning about money is an important math skill! In the United States, we use four main coins. Let's learn their names, what they look like, and how much they are worth.
The Penny
- Looks like: A penny is a shiny copper (brown) color. It is the only coin that is this color! Abraham Lincoln is on the front.
- Value: 1 cent
The Nickel
- Looks like: A nickel is a silver-colored coin. It is thicker than a penny and a dime. Thomas Jefferson is on the front.
- Value: 5 cents
The Dime
- Looks like: A dime is the smallest and thinnest coin, but it is worth more than a penny or a nickel! It is silver-colored and features Franklin D. Roosevelt.
- Value: 10 cents
The Quarter
- Looks like: A quarter is the biggest of these four coins. It is silver-colored and features George Washington on the front.
- Value: 25 cents
